The JNCRADIO Grounding Plate Disc is a compact, lightweight grounding hub designed by Chelegance to optimise the ground plane for portable HF vertical antennas. It fits between the earth stake and the antenna base to allow quick connection of wire radials via banana plugs, significantly improving transmission and reception performance.

  • Compatible with the Chelegance MC-750 and JPC-12 (PAC-12) antennas.
  • Standard M10 x 1.5 thread for the earth stake.
  • 12 sockets for 4mm banana plugs.
  • Ultra-lightweight design (40g), ideal for SOTA/POTA.
  • Improves SWR stability and radiation efficiency.
  • Requires the fabrication of radials (wire not included).

Supplied with: 1 Grounding Plate Disc, 12 4mm banana plugs (to be soldered).

Data sheet

Summary

The Chelegance JNCRADIO ground plane is an essential accessory for mobile amateur radio operators using vertical antennas such as the MC-750 or JPC-12. This central hub allows you to set up an effective and tidy radial ground plane in a matter of seconds, guaranteeing superior DX performance compared to a simple connection to a ground stake. It is a sensible technical choice for stabilising your impedance and maximising your signal when operating on the move.

Key features

  • Quick Deployment: Thanks to the 4mm banana plugs, the radials can be fitted and removed instantly without any fiddly screwing.
  • Wide Compatibility: Designed specifically for the MC-750, it also fits perfectly with JPC-12 antennas and other systems using an M10 thread.
  • Enhanced Performance: By increasing the number of contact points for the radials (up to 12), it creates a dense ground plane that lowers the radiation angle and reduces signal loss.
  • Ultra-Portable: Weighing just 40g and measuring 5cm in diameter, it slips into any pocket of a radio rucksack.
  • Customisable: Supplied with banana plugs, it gives you the freedom to create your own radials (length and type of wire) tailored to your preferred frequency bands.

Technical specifications

  • Product type: Grounding plate
  • Disc diameter: 50 mm (1.97 inches)
  • Thickness: 11 mm (0.43 inches)
  • Weight: 40 g (0.09 lb)
  • Mounting thread: M10 x 1.5 (metric standard)
  • Radians connectors: 12 x sockets for 4 mm female banana plugs
  • Material: High-resistance conductive and insulating alloy
  • Accessories included: 12 male 4mm banana plugs (to be soldered onto your wires)

Compatibility

  • Chelegance MC-750 antenna: Direct native compatibility with the original spike.
  • JPC-12 (PAC-12) antenna: Compatible with the M10 thread, BUT requires the use of the MC-750 earth spike (the JPC-12’s original spike is often too short to accommodate the thickness of the disc).
  • Other antennas: Any vertical antenna system using a base with an M10 x 1.5 thread.
  • Wire for radials: We recommend 0.75 mm² RV flexible wire (not supplied) for making the radials.
  • Important note: Not compatible with the yellow radian strip supplied as standard with the MC-750 (designed for terminal block connection rather than banana plugs).

FAQ

Can I use the original radials from my MC-750 with this disc?

No, the yellow radian cable supplied with the MC-750 is not directly compatible as it uses terminals. This disc is designed for use with wires fitted with the supplied banana plugs.

What type of wire should I buy to make my radials?

The manufacturer recommends RV 0.75mm² wire (flexible copper wire). This offers an excellent balance between conductivity, flexibility for transport and ease of soldering to the banana plugs.

Is it compatible with the JPC-12 antenna?

Yes, the threading is compatible. However, the earth spike supplied with the JPC-12 is often too short to screw the antenna in properly once the disc is inserted. It is strongly recommended that you use the MC-750 earth spike or a longer M10 earth spike.

What is the practical purpose of this disc?

It serves as a central point for easily connecting several counterweight wires (radials). A good ground plane is essential for 1/4-wave vertical antennas in order to achieve a good SWR and efficient radiation.

How many radials should I connect?

The disc has 12 mounting points. The more radials you connect, the better the performance will be, particularly on the lower bands (40m/80m). For the higher bands, 4 to 8 radials are generally sufficient.

Why choose the JNCRADIO Grounding Plate?

  • Tidy set-up: No more tangled wires or makeshift connections with crocodile clips on the earth stake.
  • Quick installation: The ‘Plug & Play’ banana plug system saves valuable time during SOTA or POTA activations.
  • Chelegance quality: Robust construction suited to the demands of the field, drawing on JNCRADIO’s recognised expertise.
  • Signal optimisation: This is one of the most cost-effective ways to genuinely improve the performance of your portable station.
