LoRa mesh networks, such as Meshtastic and MeshCore, allow for the exchange of text messages, GPS locations, and data over long distances without relying on 4G, 5G, or an Internet connection.
They use LoRa radio technology at 868 MHz, which provides a long range (up to several tens of kilometers) with very low power consumption.
Meshtastic and MeshCore are two different protocols that use LoRa to create decentralized communication networks. The hardware is generally compatible with each of the LoRa protocols, but the protocols themselves are not compatible with one another, and devices cannot communicate using both protocols at the same time.
To get started with LoRa Mesh, all you need are two small Bluetooth nodes and a smartphone.
For mobile or outdoor use, opt for a model with a battery and GPS. To extend coverage, a fixed or solar-powered repeater installed at a high point will be more suitable. Finally, devices with a screen and keyboard allow you to communicate without a smartphone.
Our selection includes Elecrow ThinkNode and TTGO/LILYGO devices, Meshtastic and MeshCore terminals, GPS trackers, solar-powered repeaters, gateways, development boards, and 868 MHz antennas.
