Average rating: 5/5 Number of reviews: 2

The Chelegance (JNCRADIO)MC-599 antenna is a portable HF dipole designed for outdoor operations (POTA/SOTA) and DX. Covering the 40m to 6m bands (7–50 MHz), it stands out for its ease of tuning, thanks to markings on the telescopic whips and its integrated 1:1 balun for optimum performance.

  • Wide bandwidth: Continuous coverage from 14 to 50 MHz via the whip elements, and 7 MHz via additional wires.
  • Power handling: Up to 200W PEP (SSB), ideal for QRP or 100W transceivers.
  • Quick tuning: Marking system on the elements for tuning without an analyser.
  • Integrated 1:1 balun: Reduces sheath currents and improves impedance matching.
  • Ultra-portable: Weighs just 1.43 kg and measures 57.5 cm when folded.
  • Versatile installation: V-shaped (dipole) or inverted V configuration (for 40m).

Supplied with: 1 antenna base with integrated balun, 2 telescopic 5.6m whips, 2 wire elements for 7 MHz, 1 carry bag.

Data sheet

Summary

The Chelegance JNCRADIO MC-599 dipole antenna is the ultimate solution for mobile amateur radio operators who demand high performance and quick set-up. Designed to cover the HF bands from 7 to 50 MHz with a power handling capacity of 200W, it features a 1:1 balun and an ingenious marking system on the whip elements for precise, tool-free tuning. It is the perfect choice for POTA and SOTA activations or temporary set-ups whilst on holiday.

Key features

  • Intuitive marking system: No more fiddling around to find the resonance – the telescopic whip antennas are marked for each band (14–50 MHz), allowing adjustment in a matter of seconds.
  • High-performance 1:1 balun: Integrated directly into the aluminium base, it eliminates common-mode interference and ensures a clean signal.
  • 40-metre extension included: Unlike many portable antennas limited to 20 metres, the MC-599 includes specific wire elements to operate effectively on the 7 MHz band.
  • Robust and lightweight: Weighing just 1.43 kg and featuring a sturdy aluminium base, it combines durability with ease of transport.
  • Wide bandwidth: Once tuned to a centre frequency (e.g. 14 MHz), it generally covers the entire band without requiring constant readjustment.

Technical specifications

  • Frequencies covered: 7 MHz (40m) to 50 MHz (6m)
  • Antenna type: Rigid dipole (V-Dipole) / inverted V (for 40m)
  • Rated power: 200W PEP (SSB), 100W (CW/FT8)
  • Impedance: 50 ohms
  • TOS (SWR): ≤ 1.5 on the tuned bands
  • Antenna connector: UHF female (SO-239)
  • Whip length: 5.6m extended / 53.5 cm folded
  • Whip connector: M10 thread
  • Mounting connector (tripod): M14 thread (adapters are often required for standard camera tripods)
  • Carry bag dimensions: 57.5 x 11 x 7.5 cm
  • Total weight: 1.43 kg

Compatibility

  • Transceivers: Compatible with all HF radios (Yaesu FT-891, Icom IC-705, Xiegu G90, Lab599 TX-500, etc.).
  • Mounting: Requires a mast or tripod (not included) compatible with the M14 base thread or via an adapter.
  • Coaxial cable: Any 50-ohm cable with a PL-259 connector (UHF male).

FAQ

How do I set up the 40m band (7 MHz)?

For 7 MHz, do not use the telescopic whips on their own. You must connect the supplied wire elements to the ends of the whips and configure the antenna as an inverted V to achieve the correct resonance.

Do I need to use an antenna tuner?

Thanks to the precise marking system and the built-in balun, the antenna is designed to be resonant (SWR < 1.5) without a tuner on most bands. However, an internal or external tuner may be useful for fine-tuning the band edges.

Is the tripod supplied?

No, the antenna is supplied without a tripod or mast. You must provide a stable support, particularly in windy conditions, and it is strongly recommended that you guy the installation.

What is the maximum power in digital modes (FT8)?

The maximum power rating is 200W in SSB, but for continuous-wave modes such as FT8, RTTY or CW, it is recommended not to exceed 100W to prevent the balun from overheating.

Can it be used in the rain?

Although designed for outdoor use, it is not recommended to leave the antenna permanently installed in the open. It is a portable antenna intended to be set up and taken down after use.

Why choose the JNCRADIO MC-599?

  • Quick to set up: The visual marking system eliminates the need for an antenna analyser in the field, saving valuable time.
  • 40m–6m versatility: It offers a true all-in-one solution without sacrificing the 40m band, which is often critical for local and regional contacts.
  • Chelegance build quality: Renowned for the finish of its products (JNC Radio), with robust connectors and high-quality whip antennas.
  • Excellent performance-to-size ratio: It fits into a small rucksack whilst offering the gain and efficiency of a full 5.6m dipole with a span of 5.6m on each side.
