FAQ

How to adjust the SWR of this antenna?

The antenna is pre-tuned for the 144 MHz amateur band. To use it on a higher frequency (e.g., 155 MHz), you must cut the whip millimeter by millimeter following the provided cutting chart until you obtain the lowest SWR on your target frequency.

Does this antenna require a ground plane?

Yes, like any 1/4 wave antenna, the Sirio M150 PL requires a metallic ground plane (the vehicle's bodywork) to function correctly and offer good efficiency.

Is the spring essential?

The spring is integrated into the base of the antenna. It is very useful for absorbing shocks from branches or garage entrances, thus protecting the base and the whip from breaking.

What is the difference between this model and a 5/8 wave antenna?

The M150 PL is a 1/4 wave. It is shorter (about 50cm) and has a higher radiation angle than a 5/8 wave. It is ideal for rugged or urban terrain and more discreet, but will have slightly less range in flat, open terrain than a 5/8 wave.

Can it be used for the VHF marine band?

Yes, the marine band is around 156-162 MHz. This antenna covers this range. However, the whip will need to be cut to tune it specifically to these marine frequencies.
