FAQ
How to tune this antenna to my frequency?
The antenna is delivered with a whip longer than necessary to cover the lowest frequency (350 MHz). To tune it to a higher frequency (e.g., 446 MHz), you must cut the whip following the cutting chart provided in the packaging, then fine-tune the setting using an SWR meter.
Does the magnetic base hold well at high speeds?
The 60 mm MAG60 base is designed for normal road use. For high-speed highway use, ensure the roof surface is clean and dry before placement. For larger antennas or very high speeds, a wider base (MAG125 or MAG145) could be considered, but the MAG60 is generally sufficient for this antenna size.
Can I use this antenna for PMR446?
Yes, absolutely. By cutting the whip to the length corresponding to 446 MHz, this antenna will offer excellent performance for PMR446. Note, however, that PMR446 regulations normally require fixed, non-detachable antennas on handhelds, so use is at your own responsibility.
Can the cable be extended?
The 3-meter RG58 cable is crimped to the magnetic base. It is not recommended to extend it excessively as this increases losses, especially in UHF. If you need more length, use a quality extension with appropriate adapters, but try to keep the length to a minimum.
What is the difference compared to a 1/4 wave antenna?
This antenna is a 5/8 wave. It offers a lower radiation angle on the horizon, which favors range in flat and open terrain compared to a classic 1/4 wave antenna. It also has a slight additional gain of 2 dB.
