FAQ

Which power supply should I choose for the IC-718?

This set consumes a maximum of 21A at full power at 100W. We recommend a power supply with a minimum of 25A amps, such as the model Nissei NS1230Dor the NS30D for example.

Which aerials should I use with the IC718?

The ideal choice of antenna depends on a number of factors, starting with the type of use (portable, mobile or fixed): The space available, the mounting/installation options and the frequency bands mainly used.

It goes without saying that there is no such thing as a 'magic' antenna, capable of doing everything under any circumstances! You often have to make a choice about the bands covered in transmission, favouring the bands that you prefer and that you plan to tamper with, or accept slightly average performance everywhere.

Here is a selection of recommended antennas for different types of use with the IC-718:

1.Dipole and wire antennas

Dipoles are often the first choice for radio amateurs, as they are simple to build and offer good performance on several bands.

For relatively unobtrusive installation, but provided space is available, wire antennas are a good choice.

- Multiband dipole Diamond BB6WS Well-adjusted to cover several HF bands without the need for an external tuner.
- Inverted V dipole G5RV : A popular wire antenna that covers several HF bands with relatively simple tuning, requires the use of the tuner
- T2FD wideband HF 2-30 Mhz wire antenna DIAMOND WD-330J

2. Vertical antennas

Vertical antennas are recommended for their ease of mounting on a mast and their ability to operate on several bands.

- Diamond CP6SR : Multi-band vertical antenna recognised for the main HF bands (10 to 80 metres).
- Diamond BB7V A wideband vertical antenna that does not require radials and covers many bands without complex adjustments.

3.Directional antennas

If you have the space and want to maximise your DX performance, a directional antenna is ideal.

- Yagi 3 elements: Offers significant gain on HF bands such as 20, 15 and 10 metres, perfect for long-distance contacts.
- Hexbeam: A compact antenna with similar performance to a Yagi, but with fewer installation constraints.

4. Mobile antennas

For mobile use, antennas specially designed for this configuration are required.

- Diamond HV7CX Multi-band antenna for mobile use on several bands without changing settings
- Diamond SD-330 A multi-band mobile antenna with an integrated tuner, designed for rugged performance on the move.

5.Portable antennas

For operators who want to operate in the field (portable), a lightweight, easy-to-carry antenna is essential.

- MC-750 A modular portable antenna that allows the configuration to be adjusted according to band requirements and conditions.
- Chelegance JPC-7 Portable dipole antenna 8 bands HF 40m to 6m : A versatile portable antenna system, ideal for POTA (Parks On The Air) and SOTA (Summits On The Air).
