The service life depends on how the cleats are used. When used for light loads on control lines, cleats can last 10 years.
However, stretching a rope by pulling it back through the teeth will burn out a nylon cleat more quickly. This is why alloy cleats were originally developed.
Alloy cleats can withstand this type of use, provided the rope is clean. A dirty, sandy rope will wear out any binding.
Hard anodised cleats have a slightly higher wear resistance than silver cleats. Nylon cleats are completely resistant to corrosion in salt water. They are also resistant to many acids and chemicals. Alloy cleats have excellent corrosion resistance. Anodised cleats have slightly better corrosion resistance than silver cleats.
