868 MHz F4NLV SAW filter for Meshtastic Meshcore LoRa u.FL IPEX

rating No review at the moment

The 868 MHz F4NLV SAW filter is an RF band-pass filter designed to improve the reception quality of MeshCore nodes operating in the 868 MHz band.

This compact filter is fitted onto the u.FL/IPEX1 RF link between the LoRa module and its antenna.

It attenuates unwanted signals outside the operating band and reduces the risk of interference from neighbouring radio transmissions, particularly the 900 MHz GSM band.

This SAW filter combines good selectivity, a low insertion loss of 1.5 to 1.8 dB and a maximum power handling capacity of 27 dBm.

  • 868 MHz bandpass filter with a centre frequency of 869 MHz and a bandwidth of ± 4 MHz.

  • Out-of-band attenuation of 30 to 40 dB to limit interference from unwanted frequencies.

  • Insertion loss of 1.5 to 1.8 dB, minimising attenuation of the desired signals.

  • Maximum permissible power of 27 dBm, suitable for LoRa equipment complying with this limit.

  • u.FL / IPEX1 connectors for compact integration onto compatible radio modules.

  • Compatible with integration on the Seeed Studio SenseCAP Solar P1 and P1-Pro

  • Easy installation thanks to the included double-sided adhesive tape and connecting cable.

Supplied with: 1 x 868 MHz F4NLV SAW filter with two u.FL / IPEX1 connectors and double-sided adhesive tape, 1 x 5 cm u.FL to u.FL coaxial cable.

Applications for the 868 MHz unlicensed frequency band: LoRa / LoRaWAN, Meshtastic, Meshcore and any radio application on the 868 MHz ISM band.

Option: 868 MHz 4.4 dBi matched antenna

How SAW filtering works and its benefits

  • The SAW filter uses surface acoustic waves to select a range of radio frequencies and attenuate signals outside that range.

  • Its band-pass operation allows LoRa signals around 868 MHz to pass through whilst reducing the amplitude of out-of-band emissions.

  • It can help improve reception conditions when a MeshCore / Meshtastic node is exposed to strong radio transmissions on neighbouring or distant frequencies.

  • It helps to minimise the risk of the receiver becoming saturated by certain unwanted signals.

  • Its compact design facilitates integration into LoRa equipment fitted with u.FL connectors.

  • The filter is passive: it does not amplify the received signal. Its insertion loss must be taken into account in the RF link analysis.

Applications and compatibility

  • MeshCore nodes operating on the European 868 MHz band.

  • MeshCore LoRa repeaters operating in environments with radio interference.

  • Installation documented on solar-powered repeaters Seeed Studio SenseCAP Solar P1 and P1-Pro.

  • Other 868 MHz LoRa modules with suitable RF connections, subject to mechanical, electrical and power compatibility.

Installation and precautions

  • The filter is integrated into the RF chain, between the LoRa radio module and the antenna connection.

  • Use the supplied 5 cm u.FL to u.FL coaxial cable to create the appropriate connection for the installation.

  • Check connector compatibility before installation.

  • Do not exceed the maximum permissible RF power of 27 dBm at the filter input.

  • Do not bend the coaxial cables excessively to avoid damaging them and impairing their RF performance.

  • Handle the u.FL connectors with care when connecting and disconnecting them.

  • For installation on SenseCAP Solar P1 or P1-Pro, you must remove all 18650 cells before carrying out any work.

  • Use double-sided adhesive tape to secure the filter inside the housing, taking care not to apply any mechanical stress to its connectors.
