FAQ

What type of 18650 rechargeable battery should be used?

The case requires a flat-top 18650 lithium-ion battery with an operating voltage range of 3.3 V to 4.2 V. Batteries with a button-top or a protection circuit that is too long may not fit into the designated slot.

Is the case waterproof for use in the rain?

No, this aluminium casing with a touchscreen does not have a certified IP waterproof rating. For outdoor use in wet weather, it is recommended that you protect it with a suitable waterproof cover.

Why does the buzzer sometimes make slight noises when starting up?

During the module’s initial phase of acquiring GPS/GNSS signals, CPU activity and interrupts may disrupt the buzzer’s timing, causing brief, irregular sounds. This behaviour is entirely normal and usually stops about one minute after a GPS fix has been obtained.

Which Meshtastic firmware should I flash onto this version?

As this kit uses the V4-R8 board with a TFT screen, firmware from previous versions (V1) is not compatible. You must flash Meshtastic firmware versions labelled Heltec V4-R8 TFT (e.g. firmware-heltec-v4-r8-tft-xxxx.factory.bin).

How do I switch between the touchscreen interface and Bluetooth mode?

In direct touchscreen mode, Bluetooth settings can be configured via the Bluetooth icon on the home screen: a short press activates programming mode for updates, whilst a long press switches to BASE UI companion mode, allowing pairing with the Meshtastic smartphone app.
